That massive emerald rock Michelle Yeoh is sporting on the red carpet is the one from Crazy Rich Asians. Turns out, the engagement ring that belonged to her character, Eleanor Young, in the hit 2018 movie is actually Yeoh's. "It was very important for it to be real," Yeoh told The Knot. "And Eleanor was a character who knew what she wore had to be flawless." Seems they have a lot in common, then. Glenn Close managed to upset forerunner Lady Gaga by winning the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, for her role in The Wife. She was clearly expecting it about as much as Gaga was. The look on her face when her name was announced is priceless. There was a surprise hit on the red carpet and it wasn’t an A-lister. It was the lady carrying a tray of Fiji water. Kelleth Cuthbert, the model who was hired by the brand to serve its product to Golden Globes guests, managed to photobomb multiple celebs and become a viral meme star while she was at it. “The Fiji water girl is literally living her best life,” one Twitter user joked. It all happened as Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler were presenting the award for Best Screenplay, Motion Picture (which went to Green Book). Rudolph popped the question. "I'm so sorry, guys, I just … I have to do this," she said, while pretending to tear up. Poehler, playing along, said: “No! No, Maya! What are you doing?” “Amy Geraldine Poehler … will you marry me?” While Poehler was concerned about stealing focus from the winners, she still gushed, “Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!” The pair seemed to be poking fun of the viral proposal from the 2018 Emmy Awards, when director Glenn Weiss asked his girlfriend Jan Friendlander Svendsen to marry him during his acceptance speech. Some folks piped up on Twitter, saying the female comedy duo should host the Oscars this February (instead of Kevin Hart?). Oh co-hosted the Golden Globes 2019 with Andy Samberg and in their opening monologue they took it in turn to praise and roast a few attendees. In a sentimental moment, Oh spoke about the significance of Crazy Rich Asians as the first feature film to have an all-Asian cast in more than two decades. "It's the first studio film with an Asian-American lead since Ghost in the Shell and Aloha." She's referring to Stone, in the latter, playing the lead character, who was apparently of Hawaiian and Chinese descent. She received quite a bit of backlash for the role at the time. Stone replied immediately, yelling "I'm sorry!" over the crowd. Freddie Mercury met Ally Maine tonight, as the Bohemian Rhapsody star politely introduced himself to the A Star Is Born actress. And it was a super-cute moment. Malek won the award for Actor, Best Performance in a Motion Picture – Drama for playing the Queen frontman in Bohemian Rhapsody, while Gaga lost out to Glenn Close for her award. She did, however, get the gong for Original Song, for Shallow. For her role in If Beale Street Could Talk, Regina King won the best supporting actress in a motion picture accolade. Her son was elated, it seems, as he did a little dance at the table. Of course, the Seven Seconds actress was over the moon herself, and took the opportunity of her acceptance speech to challenge herself and others to hire 50 per cent women in producing projects this year. It seems time is not up on the Time's Up movement. Regina King's son was cute, but his reaction was nothing compared to Sandra Oh's dad. The actress won the Best Actress in a TV Series – Drama award for her role in the smash-hit BBC show Killing Eve. He was a rightly proud daddy. Sandra Oh's win marked a huge turning point for diversity in the industry. She was the first person of Asian descent to host the glittering awards show. She was the first woman of Asian descent to win multiple Golden Globes, and the first to win an award for best actress in a TV drama in 39 years. Bradley Cooper was up for Best Director – Motion Picture for his work on A Star Is Born, but lost out to Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron for his celebrated Netflix hit Roma. Some fans were devastated. But it's widely agreed that Cuaron did an outstanding job this year (in fact, even The National dubbed Roma "the greatest film of 2018"). _________________________ Read more: Golden Globes winners 2019: Lady Gaga, Rami Malek, Roma and Sandra Oh 49 looks from the Golden Globes red carpet – who wore what The best looks from Golden Globes past - in pictures __________________________
