For your fix of all things cool, look no further than Sole DXB, the UAE's street wear, art, culture and music festival, which takes place every December in Dubai's D3. The three-day street extravaganza is set to take place between Thursday, December 5 and Saturday, December 7. Organisers are remaining tight-lipped about headline acts, but last year saw US rapper Nas perform. This year's festival is set to celebrate all things Jamaica, with a focus on the "sights and sounds" of the island. Of the theme, organisers have said: "[Jamaica is] the motherland of mento, bashment, ska, rocksteady, dub, reggae, ragga beats, and Dancehall. The roots of these genres started life in the dance halls of Kingston, but became the musical backdrop to the politically-charged bars spit by hip-hop legends from the Bronx, the rhythmic foundation for the lyrical masters of Grime, the calypso-rich melodies of English Ska, and inspired reggae movements across Africa and Europe." As well as cultural experiences, there will also be brand activations and retail spaces. Brands including Cadillac, Adidas Originals, Burberry, Farfetch, Jordan Brand, Levi’s and Puma are all set to get involved. The festival first launched in 2010 and has grown annually. Last year's event saw 28,500 visitors attend. “Each year we build Sole DXB on the bedrock of storytelling and subcultural narratives. We seek out stories that are current, but also under-represented. This year is no different. "The Jamaican Sound System is the most influential force in contemporary popular music today, so we went to Jamaica to find out how an island nation of 2.8 million has continued to punch far above its weight, for over 60 years," co-founder and creative director, Hussain Moloobhoy, says of this year's festival. "The Jamaican diaspora has influenced what we listen to and how we create. This year we look forward to celebrating all that the island has given us." A limited number of pre-sale tickets are now available. They start at Dh295 for the weekend, and will go up to Dh375 for the weekend from Tuesday, October 22.
