More celebrities join protests against Zimmerman verdict

Celebrities in the US are joining in to rally against the recent acquittal of George Zimmerman who shot and killed a black teenager last year.

Legendary singer Stevie Wonder has announced he will no longer perform in the state of Florida, where the court case was held, until it changes its Stand Your Ground laws.

The laws give people in some American states the right to use deadly force to defend themselves.

The acquittal of Zimmerman, a watch guard, who was found not guilty last week for killing 17-year-old Travyon Martin, has caused widespread outrage, including in celebrity circles.

Friday’s Jay Z and Justin Timberlake concert at New York City’s Yankee Stadium saw the pair taking a moment to honour Martin.

The two closed their show with a performance of Jay Z's Forever Young, dedicated to the teenager.

Jay Z and his wife, Beyonce, also attended a rally this weekend in New York, protesting the verdict.

Other celebrities who have spoken out on the case include singer Bruce Springsteen, who dedicated his song, American Skin (41 Shots), to Martin at a recent show in Ireland, according to the Huffington Post.
