The Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan appeared in court on Thursday and denied breaking the nose of a South African businessman at a luxury hotel two years ago. The incident allegedly happened in Mumbai's Taj Mahal Palace hotel in February 2012. The businessman accuses Khan of pushing him and punching him in the face in the Japanese restaurant Wasabi. "The court today framed charges against Khan and his two friends – Shakeel Ladak and Bilal Amrohi – under section 325 [assault] and 34 [common intention] of the Indian Penal Code," said the public prosecutor Wajeed Sheikh, according to the Press Trust of India. The trio pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out against them in the Mumbai court. – AFP
Hilton inaugurates Manila beach club
Paris Hilton has unveiled her first real estate project in Manila and says she wants to follow in the footsteps of her great-grandfather and grandfather, who created the Hilton hotel empire. Hilton inaugurated the urban Paris Beach Club, which she designed in collaboration with the Philippine developer Century Properties. The Club fronts a man-made beach within a condominium community in Parañaque City. The 33-year-old Hilton says the project is just a start to more property ventures: "This is probably the one project I'm most proud about because real estate is something that runs in my blood." – AP
Rick Ross tops Billboard 200
The rapper Rick Ross beat Pharrell Williams to the top of this week's Billboard 200 album chart. Ross's Mastermind became his fifth No 1 album after selling 179,000 copies in its first week, according to figures from Nielsen SoundScan. Pharrell's G I R L entered the chart at No 2. The release came after a month of high-profile performances, culminating in him singing his Oscar-nominated song Happy at the Oscars. Happy, the lead song from Despicable Me 2, stayed at No 1 on Billboard's Digital Songs chart this week. In third place on the album chart is Disney's soundtrack to the animated movie Frozen. Rounding out the top five of this week's Billboard 200 are Lea Michele's debut record Louder and the country music group Eli Young Band with 10,000 Towns. – Reuters
Chris Brown arrested for violating probation
Chris Brown was arrested on Friday and will be held without bail on a warrant issued by probation officials in the latest legal entanglement for the R&B singer who has struggled to put his 2009 attack on Rihanna behind him. The warrant was issued by the judge overseeing Brown's case after he was informed on Friday that the singer had been discharged from rehab "for failure to comply with rules and regulations of the programme". No further details were released. Brown had been ordered to remain in rehab for anger-management treatment. A January letter from the facility stated that the singer was also being treated for bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and past substance abuse. – AP
Keith Richards to publish children’s book
The Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards will release a children's picture book with illustrations by his daughter Theodora Richards. The book, Gus & Me: The Story of My Granddad and My First Guitar, tells the story of how Richards was first introduced to music by his grandfather and given his first guitar. "I have just become a grandfather for the fifth time, so I know what I'm talking about," Richards said in a statement about the children's book. "The bond, the special bond, between kids and grandparents is unique and should be treasured. This is a story of one of those magical moments." The hardback and e-book will be released on September 9. The hardback edition will have an audio CD featuring bonus book content. – Reuters
Big renewal deal for Big Bang
CBS is renewing its hit comedy The Big Bang Theory for three more years. The extraordinary three-year deal would carry TV's most-watched sitcom through the 2016-17 season, the series' 10th on the air. The Big Bang Theory premiered in September 2007 and has been a ratings smash for virtually its entire run. It has averaged nearly 20 million viewers each week this season. – AP
Book of Oprah’s columns to be published
Oprah Winfrey's latest book project, What I Know for Sure, features the monthly essays that she has written for O, the Oprah Magazine over the past 14 years. Flatiron Books, a new nonfiction imprint of Macmillan, announced that the book will come out on September 2. It will be the imprint's first release. Winfrey has said she named her column What I Know for Sure after the film critic Gene Siskel asked her "What do you know for sure?" during an interview. She has called the columns a way of "taking stock" of her life. – AP

What should do investors do now?
What does the S&P 500's new all-time high mean for the average investor?
Should I be euphoric?
No. It's fine to be pleased about hearty returns on your investments. But it's not a good idea to tie your emotions closely to the ups and downs of the stock market. You'll get tired fast. This market moment comes on the heels of last year's nosedive. And it's not the first or last time the stock market will make a dramatic move.
So what happened?
It's more about what happened last year. Many of the concerns that triggered that plunge towards the end of last have largely been quelled. The US and China are slowly moving toward a trade agreement. The Federal Reserve has indicated it likely will not raise rates at all in 2019 after seven recent increases. And those changes, along with some strong earnings reports and broader healthy economic indicators, have fueled some optimism in stock markets.
"The panic in the fourth quarter was based mostly on fears," says Brent Schutte, chief investment strategist for Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Company. "The fundamentals have mostly held up, while the fears have gone away and the fears were based mostly on emotion."
Should I buy? Should I sell?
Maybe. It depends on what your long-term investment plan is. The best advice is usually the same no matter the day — determine your financial goals, make a plan to reach them and stick to it.
"I would encourage (investors) not to overreact to highs, just as I would encourage them not to overreact to the lows of December," Mr Schutte says.
All the same, there are some situations in which you should consider taking action. If you think you can't live through another low like last year, the time to get out is now. If the balance of assets in your portfolio is out of whack thanks to the rise of the stock market, make adjustments. And if you need your money in the next five to 10 years, it shouldn't be in stocks anyhow. But for most people, it's also a good time to just leave things be.
Resist the urge to abandon the diversification of your portfolio, Mr Schutte cautions. It may be tempting to shed other investments that aren't performing as well, such as some international stocks, but diversification is designed to help steady your performance over time.
Will the rally last?
No one knows for sure. But David Bailin, chief investment officer at Citi Private Bank, expects the US market could move up 5 per cent to 7 per cent more over the next nine to 12 months, provided the Fed doesn't raise rates and earnings growth exceeds current expectations. We are in a late cycle market, a period when US equities have historically done very well, but volatility also rises, he says.
"This phase can last six months to several years, but it's important clients remain invested and not try to prematurely position for a contraction of the market," Mr Bailin says. "Doing so would risk missing out on important portfolio returns."
