I absolutely love the Glamglow mud masks – in fact, the original, in the black packaging, is my go-to for when my skin starts to misbehave. As pricey as it is, the hype is real. And, yes, it really does work.
So I was intrigued when I saw Glamglow’s latest release – the Dreamduo Overnight Transforming Treatment – and was excited to put it to the test.
The large-sized tub has two sections inside for a two-step treatment. The first, called the Dreamserum, is a pearlescent serum infused with anti-ageing oxidants and essential vitamins, and the second, the Dreamseal, is of a more creamy consistency, which promises to plump and hydrate the skin. It claims to be suitable for all skin types.
Having used it for more than a month now, I can say I quite like it.
At a time when layering the skin with multiple products has become quite the norm, this two-step process makes the night-time skincare routine quite simple, and provides effective results.
The Dreamserum has quite a thin consistency – and even though it feels a little bit sticky at first, it sinks right into the skin. The slightly thicker, grey Dreamseal is intensely hydrating and leaves the skin feeling plumped and incredibly soft.
The test of a good night cream is how the skin feels in the morning. Even though I have oily skin, I sometimes wake up with my skin feeling stretchy and dry. With this one, though, I had no issue, as my skin felt soft and supple in the mornings, too.
Over the past four weeks, not once did this cause me break me. In fact, I feel that my skin has become a lot smoother and slightly brighter (that could also be the Vitamin C serum I add to the mix). This is one skincare product that is totally worth the time and money investment.

Getting there
The flights
Emirates and Etihad fly to Johannesburg or Cape Town daily. Flights cost from about Dh3,325, with a flying time of 8hours and 15 minutes. From there, fly South African Airlines or Air Namibia to Namibia’s Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport, for about Dh850. Flying time is 2 hours.

Zakat definitions
Zakat: an Arabic word meaning ‘to cleanse’ or ‘purification’.
Nisab: the minimum amount that a Muslim must have before being obliged to pay zakat. Traditionally, the nisab threshold was 87.48 grams of gold, or 612.36 grams of silver. The monetary value of the nisab therefore varies by current prices and currencies.

What is graphene?
Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms arranged like honeycomb.
It was discovered in 2004, when Russian-born Manchester scientists Andrei Geim and Kostya Novoselov were "playing about" with sticky tape and graphite - the material used as "lead" in pencils.
Placing the tape on the graphite and peeling it, they managed to rip off thin flakes of carbon. In the beginning they got flakes consisting of many layers of graphene. But as they repeated the process many times, the flakes got thinner.
By separating the graphite fragments repeatedly, they managed to create flakes that were just one atom thick. Their experiment had led to graphene being isolated for the very first time.
At the time, many believed it was impossible for such thin crystalline materials to be stable. But examined under a microscope, the material remained stable, and when tested was found to have incredible properties.
It is many times times stronger than steel, yet incredibly lightweight and flexible. It is electrically and thermally conductive but also transparent. The world's first 2D material, it is one million times thinner than the diameter of a single human hair.
But the 'sticky tape' method would not work on an industrial scale. Since then, scientists have been working on manufacturing graphene, to make use of its incredible properties.
In 2010, Geim and Novoselov were awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics. Their discovery meant physicists could study a new class of two-dimensional materials with unique properties.

In the village of Mevagissey in southwest England the housing stock has doubled in the last century while the number of residents is half the historic high. The village's Neighbourhood Development Plan states that 26% of homes are holiday retreats. Prices are high, averaging around £300,000, £50,000 more than the Cornish average of £250,000.
