As a Londoner, I have never quite mastered the art of walking in heels, partly because I am tall, and because well, drizzling rain doesn't quite mix with dainty footwear. Flat options have, for too long it seems, felt like an afterthought, in that most shoe designers often seem to keep all the best adornments for heels. Thankfully, though, my days of gazing in envy as heel wearers get to flounce in gorgeous creations are over. For autumn/winter, flats are getting the same adored, adorned treatment. If velvet is your thing, try Jil Sander’s deep red slipper, or Oscar Tiye’s decadent blood red slip-on, with a swashbuckling buckle. Satin lovers should look for No21, and its twist of sumptuous satin, finished with a silver bow and a low heel studded in crystals. Sanayi have unveiled a collection of earthy Morocco-inspired pointy flats, made rich and heavy in luxe tassels and embroidered pom-poms, while Aquazzura have charming points, in cardinal purple and star bursts of gold embroidery. For daytime, try Malone Souliers and its pretty 1920s prints, or Gianvito Rossi’s denim pumps, with flowers and bees embroidered on the toe. And the best news? They are all available at Level Shoe District in The Dubai Mall.
