Emirates will resume its flights to Lusaka, Zambia's capital, starting Friday, September 4. The Dubai airline is now flying to nine destinations in Africa, the other eight are Tunis, Tunisia; Conakry, Guinea; Dakar, Senegal; Cairo, Egypt; Nairobi, Kenya; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; and Khartoum, Sudan. The Lusaka flight will be twice weekly, on Fridays and Sundays, and on a Boeing 777-300 ER; the flight leaves Dubai at 8.20am. The reintroduction of the Lusaka route brings the airline's network back up to 79 cities. Another route that will relaunch in September is Bangkok: the airline will resume daily flights to the Thai capital on Tuesday, September 1. Last week, the airline says it hopes to have its full network of 143 destinations operational by summer next year "I think we can easily say by summer 2021, we will be serving 100 per cent of our network destinations, that means 143 destinations will be served by summer 2021," chief operating officer, Adel Al Redha, told CNBC. Zambia's borders are open and tourist and business visit visas are available, but they must be obtained in advance, not on arrival. Also, all visitors must have proof that they have tested negative for Covid-19 in the 14 days before their arrival into the country. All travel advisories are very changeable at the moment, however, so it is always best to check requirements again when booking or preparing to fly. Transit passengers can expect to pass through thermal scanners, and anyone showing signs of Covid-19 will be tested for the virus. Once cleared from the Medical Centre, passengers can continue to the departure gate. If this causes travellers to miss a connecting flight, Emirates will rebook passengers on to the next flight and provide accommodation at Dubai International Airport Hotel if required. However, if test results come back positive for transit passengers, they will need to follow the advice of the Dubai Health Authority and quarantine in Dubai for 14 days. All travellers are advised to check the latest requirements for their country of origin and their intended destination regularly before travelling because rules and restrictions can change with very little notice.
