Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, has approved a five-year plan to transform the roads network across the emirate.
The plan, from Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) features 21 projects spreading across 12 residential, commercial and industrial areas, with a total of 634km of new roads costing Dh3.7 billion.
The Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040 estimates the city's population will have risen to 5.8 million by 2040.
The Dubai Statistics Centre currently estimates the population to be 3.8 million.

- The transport Minibuses run along the Chuysky Trakt but if you want to stop for sightseeing, hire a taxi from Gorno-Altaisk for about US$100 (Dh360) a day. Take a Russian phrasebook or download a translation app. Tour companies such as Altair-Tour ( 7 383 2125115 ) offer hiking and adventure packages.
