Formula One could be set to take to the streets of London after reports Bernie Ecclestone wants to stage a Dh200M race around the city's landmarks. The 5.1km route, which is due to be revealed later today, would see F1 cars racing past Trafalgar Square, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace, creating a street circuit in the vein of Monaco. Eccleston would promote the race, according to the Times newspaper, at a cost of more than £35m (Dh 200M). The plans bank on the event drawing more than 120,000 spectators to the British capital - which would make it the largest event on the F1 calendar. "Think what it would do for tourism," Ecclestone told the paper. "It would be fantastic, good for London, good for England — a lot better than the Olympics," he added. sports@thenational.ae Follow us
