Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes on a four-and-a-half-year deal. The French champions have acquired the 24-year-old Zenit Saint Petersburg player for a reported fee of €47 million (Dh198m). Paredes, who had also been the subject of interest from Chelsea, flew to Qatar on Tuesday to complete his medical and put pen to paper on a contract until 2023. "I'm very proud to be joining Paris Saint-Germain," Paredes told the French club's official website. "I now have this fantastic opportunity, not only to discover a new league, but ... to wear one the most prestigious club jerseys in the world." The capture of the nine-cap Argentina international will be welcomed by manager Thomas Tuchel, who vented his frustration at a lack of new faces at Parc des Princes following Sunday's 4-1 win over Rennes. The Ligue 1 leaders were looking to strengthen in midfield ahead of their Uefa Champions League last-16 tie against Manchester United, with Marco Verratti sidelined with an ankle injury and Adrien Rabiot frozen out after refusing to sign a new contract. PSG are likely to be missing talisman Neymar for the first leg at Old Trafford on February 12 after the Brazilian injured a metatarsal in his right foot last week. PSG chairman Nasser Al Khelaifi said Paredes would bring guile and strength to the club's midfield. "Leandro brings with him the traditional strengths of Argentinian football, a fighting spirit and excellent technical skills," he said. "I am sure he will fit quickly into our coach's well-organised and ambitious team." Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye could also arrive in the coming days after British media reported the Senegal international has handed in a transfer request after PSG's initial approach for the former Lille player was rejected on Monday. PSG, who have a 13-point lead at the top of Ligue 1, travel to third-placed Lyon on Sunday.
