The Sharjah captain Shaheen Abdulrahman is confident the momentum is with them when they meet Shabab Al Ahli in the Arabian Gulf Super Cup at the Al Maktoum Stadium in Dubai on Friday. Sharjah are the defending champions of both the Super Cup and the Arabian Gulf League, and the UAE international defender is confident to add the season’s first domestic silverware to that. “As the captain, the hunger in me and the team keeps growing, and I always strive to win titles,” Abdulrahman said. “Our target in Sharjah this season is to compete and win all titles, and the Super Cup is the first that is on offer for the season. "The team that wishes to remain at the top have to put in effort. That’s very clear for me and my players.” Abdulrahman is aware Shabab Al Ahli are no pushovers despite lagging 13 points behind in sixth spot in the league table behind leaders Sharjah are no pushovers. “We are quite familiar in dealing with tough opponents and this game is one of them,” the Sharjah defender added. “The fact that it is a final match makes it even more difficult as both teams will be fully focused. Shabab Al Ahli have strong team overall but we will do our best to win the title.” The game will take place without fans and Abdulrahman said they will feel their absence at the stadium. “The last time we won the Super Cup we had big presence of our fans at the stadium but this time we will definitely miss them,” Abdulrahman said. “Their presence has always been a source of motivation for us on the pitch. We can’t do anything about it so we hope we win this title for them and hope this pandemic ends soon and the Sharjah fans will be back at the stadiums to support the team.” Midfielder Majed Hassan is confident that Shabab Al Ahli are up to the challenge. “This is a winner-takes-all game and obviously a very tough match,” he said. “We need to be physically and technically ready to control the game and put in massive effort throughout the match.” The match will be held under the "Our Winter is Super" slogan, which was launched by the UAE Pro League in support of the "World’s Coolest Winter" campaign to promote domestic tourism in the UAE.
