Wayne Rooney will have the opportunity to add to his record goals haul for England after it was announced he will come out of international retirement. But for those thinking the move is based on merit - he has been in fine form for DC United in Major League Soccer - his call up is instead due to the fixture against the United States being designated as the Wayne Rooney Foundation International in support of his charitable interests. "I am truly humbled and hugely excited to play for England at Wembley again,” said Rooney, now 33. "I would like to thank Gareth Southgate and The FA for inviting me back and helping to support my foundation in the process. "Playing for England was the greatest honour of my career, so winning my 120th – and final – cap will be a particularly special moment for me." Rooney added: "I was lucky to enjoy a long and successful career with a great many people helping me to achieve my dreams. The Foundation allows me to give something back to four charities, all of whom do hugely important work." The former Everton and Manchester United forward last played for England in 2016 and went on to score 53 international goals. He made his debut in 2003 and represented England in six tournaments. His time in the US has been fruitful so far, having arrived in Washington DC with his side bottom of the MLS table. He scored 12 goals to help propel them into the play-offs but he missed a penalty as they were knocked out in the first round. The match against the US takes place at Wembley Stadium on November 18. _____________ Read more: MLS play-offs: Wayne Rooney leading an American revolution at DC United Wayne Rooney misses in penalty shoot-out as DC United knocked out of MLS play-offs England's worst ever players: Michael Ricketts, Scott Carson, Jon Flanagan and more
