Premier League round-up: Emerton to bow out

Blackburn Rovers v Everton

Brett Emerton is determined to end his Blackburn career with a victory as he prepares to pull on the blue and white shirt for the final time today. The 32-year-old Australian is ending his eight-year stay at Ewood Park to return to his native country after signing a three-year deal with Sydney FC. Emerton told the club's official website: "It has been a fantastic eight years, I have enjoyed every minute of it and I'm sure it will be emotional after the game."

Chelsea v Norwich City

Andre Villas-Boas, the Chelsea manager, said he will probably leave new signing Juan Mata on the bench at Stamford Bridge today. The Spanish midfielder, 23, arrived from Valencia for £24 million (Dh144m) on Wednesday, but Villas-Boas said he needs more time to get to know his teammates. Meanwhile, the Norwich defender Daniel Ayala, just signed from Liverpool, is facing two months on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Liverpool v Bolton Wanderers

Sebastian Coates, the Uruguay defender, was on his way to England yesterday to seal a transfer to Liverpool from Nacional de Montevideo. The centre-back, 20, voted best young player in July's Copa America, is expected to cost around £6m. Also, the Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani has joined AC Milan on loan until next summer. Bolton have signed Belgian defender Dedryck Boyata, 20, from Manchester City on a season-long loan deal.

Swansea City v Sunderland

The summer signing John O'Shea will make his competitive debut for Sunderland at Swansea today. The former Manchester United defender has finally shaken off the hamstring injury which has sidelined him for five weeks. Swansea have yet to score in the league this season and the manager, Brendan Rodgers, said: "It's certainly something we are working hard on. We have terrific talent at the top of end of the field and it will only be a matter of time.
