Blackburn Rovers
Blackburn have completed the signing of the Partizan Belgrade midfielder Radosav Petrovic, for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Premier League club, having received a work permit. The 6ft 4in (1.93m) defensive midfielder has made 19 appearances for Serbia, having made his debut for the country in 2009.
Newcastle United
Newcastle United have signed Gabriel Obertan on a five-year deal from Manchester United. "His best years are ahead of him which is exactly what we want at this club and, with the backing of our magnificent fans, I'm sure he will prove an excellent signing for us," Alan Pardew, the Newcastle manager, said in a statement. Obertan, 22, struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford after joining from French Ligue 1 side Girondins Bordeaux in 2009, making only 15 appearances last season.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham's South African international Steven Pienaar will miss the first six weeks of the Premier League season after suffering a groin injury. Pienaar, 29, picked up the injury during Spurs' pre-season friendly against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, and underwent surgery early yesterday. "[Pienaar] is expected to be sidelined with the injury for up to six weeks," Tottenham announced on their website. Pienaar joined Spurs from Everton in January on a four-year contract.
Birmingham City
Getafe have signed Miguel "Michel" Marcos from Birmingham City. The 25-year-old midfielder was presented by the Madrid club yesterday. Michel joined Birmingham - who were relegate from the Premier League last season - in 2010 from the Spanish club Sporting Gijon. He played in 12 games before being loaned out to Greek side AEK Athens, where he made 15 appearances.
Swansea City
Swansea have secured Garry Monk after the defender signed a new three-year contract at the Liberty Stadium. Monk, the 32-year-old captain, joined Swansea seven years ago from Barnsley, and has played in all four divisions for the Welsh club on their journey from League Two to the Premier League. Monk told the club's website: "It's a big thing for me to sign a contract that will take me up to my 10th year. It's something I am very proud of, my family is proud of, and I've worked hard for it."
Manchester City
Gael Clichy, the Manchester City defender, has been drafted into the France squad as a replacement for Patrice Evra for a friendly against Chile. Evra, who injured a knee in Manchester United's Community Shield victory over City on Sunday, did not take part in training and, after undergoing tests in hospital, was duly ruled out of tonight's match in Montpellier. He is now a doubt for United's Premier League opener at West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.
Sunderland
Sunderland have completed the signing of Republic of Ireland midfielder James McClean from Derry City for a fee of £350,000 (Dh2.1 million). McClean, 22, has been capped by Northern Ireland at Under 21 level and was called up into the senior squad by Nigel Worthington before pulling out and announcing he wished to represent the Republic of Ireland instead.
