Thibaud Courtois, the goalkeeper, has joined Atletico Madrid on loan from Chelsea for the forthcoming season. The Stamford Bridge side recently signed the Belgian from Genk and, regarding him as one for the future, have sent him straight on loan to the Spanish side. Courtois, 19, passed a medical yesterday morning and completed the necessary paperwork, and will train with his new teammates for the first time tomorrow. Atletico were in the market for a goalkeeper after David De Gea's departure to Manchester United this summer. Park Ji-sung is adamant that Manchester United's players must take collective responsibility for replacing Paul Scholes. Park uses the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo two years ago as proof of how Scholes's loss should be overcome. "When Ronaldo left the club everyone said it was bad for the team, but we still managed to perform and win trophies. It was just one player. We had to make up for that together. It is the same with Paul Scholes." Park is considering a two-year contract to stay at Old Trafford. "We have offered him a new contract and I am sure he will sign it," Sir Alex Ferguson said. "His career at United has been nothing but excellent. He is a tremendous professional." Arsenal jetted off yesterday to Germany ahead of today's friendly against Cologne and a training camp with the future of captain Cesc Fabregas still very much up in the air. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger confirmed his skipper was not part of the travelling squad, officially at least to remain behind to work on match fitness following a hamstring problem which also prevented him from heading out on the Asia tour earlier this month. Wenger told the club's official website: "The position at the moment [with Fabregas] is a 'no comment' situation because there is no movement at all." Paul Lambert, the Norwich manager, is confident he now has enough players to "lend a hand" after adding the Tottenham defender Kyle Naughton on a season-long loan as the Canaries prepare for life in the Premier League. The England Under-21 full-back will join fellow recruits James Vaughan, Steve Morison, Elliott Bennett, Ritchie De Laet, Bradley Johnson and Anthony Pilkington when they return from a training camp in Germany, where Norwich play a Nordhausen/Regional Select XI today. Lambert, has overseen successive promotions from League One and the Championship, maintains that the squad is shaping up nicely. "We said we were looking for six or seven lads to come in and lend a hand in various positions, and it is pleasing we have now managed to do so," he told the club's website. The defender Aaron Hughes insists that the Europa League will not upset the Cottagers' pre-season preparations and that every game is being approached as if it were against Manchester United. The west Londoners secured safe passage to the third qualifying round on Thursday night with a 4-0 win over Northern Irish part-timers Crusaders, making it 7-1 on aggregate. The match was Fulham's fourth game of the season, having started their European campaign against Faroese minnows NSI Runavik on June 30. "The games are slightly different [from preseason games] because they are competitive, but we're still working through things in training with the new season in mind," Hughes said.
