DUBAI// The Public Prosecutor yesterday referred Britons Michelle Palmer and Vincent Acors to the Misdemeanours Court on charges of having consensual sexual relations out of wedlock, committing a scandalous act and consuming alcoholic beverages in public.
The prosecutor, Faisal Ahli, said the pair, arrested just after midnight on July 5 on Jumeirah beach, committed the acts in full view of passersby and attracted a "big crowd".
Mr Ahli named Mr Acors as the primary defendant and said Ms Palmer "allowed the primary defendant to have carnal relations with her as a man would with his wife". He alleged that the defendants committed the acts while under the influence of alcohol.
He added that the prosecution had heard testimony from five witnesses.
"According to witnesses there was a big crowd gathered at the open beach watching," Mr Ahli said, adding that two of the witnesses were people simply out for a walk that evening.
A court date has not been set in the case, which has attracted widespread international attention, especially in the United Kingdom.

What is dialysis?
Dialysis is a way of cleaning your blood when your kidneys fail and can no longer do the job.
It gets rid of your body's wastes, extra salt and water, and helps to control your blood pressure. The main cause of kidney failure is diabetes and hypertension.
There are two kinds of dialysis — haemodialysis and peritoneal.
In haemodialysis, blood is pumped out of your body to an artificial kidney machine that filter your blood and returns it to your body by tubes.
In peritoneal dialysis, the inside lining of your own belly acts as a natural filter. Wastes are taken out by means of a cleansing fluid which is washed in and out of your belly in cycles.
It isn’t an option for everyone but if eligible, can be done at home by the patient or caregiver. This, as opposed to home haemodialysis, is covered by insurance in the UAE.
