ABU DHABI // Judges at the Commercial Court will undergo special training as part of a programme aimed at making the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department one of the best legal agencies in the world. The judges will learn about international practices of case management, alternative methods of dispute resolution, construction-contract methodologies and banking operations, as well as how best to handle complicated court cases, among other things.
"The department has adopted global best practices by visiting advanced countries like Singapore and Ireland in an effort to develop the Commercial Court in Abu Dhabi in line with the laws of the emirate of Abu Dhabi and the UAE in general," said Sultan Saeed al Badi, under secretary of the department and head of a committee charged with its restructuring. The committee's recommendations have emphasised the need for establishing committees of judges, law professors, prosecutors and lawyers to look closely at amendments to specialised laws and to study their implementation in Abu Dhabi.
In June and July, 29 trainees with the department's Academy of Judicial Studies and Specialised Training travelled to Morocco, Switzerland, the Netherlands and France to learn about the latest judicial advances. The trip was part of the Government's efforts to improve the efficiency of the court system and to prepare a new generation of nationals for judicial, administrative and technical jobs. @Email:ealghalib@thenational.ae
