DUBAI // A man who raped 14-year-old boy more than 10 times was sentenced to three years in jail by a Dubai court this morning. The boy, who was raped by the government worker between June 14 and July 24, 2010, was also threatened by the 26-year-old man, identified as MA, an Emirati, prosecutors told the court. MA was charged in the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance with homosexual assault and issuing threats by phone on December 12, 2010. Prosecutors presented SMS transcripts from MA's phone to the victim, in which he threatened to expose him as homosexual in front of his family if the boy refused to comply with his sexual demands. The boy told prosecutors he had met MA at Rashidiya's Bin Sweiqat Mall and said the man always offered gifts and sweets. "He was nice to me and always said good things to me," he said. On June 14, 2010, according to the boy's statement, MA asked him to join him in his car. "When I entered the car, he placed blinds over the windshield and molested me," the boy said. "I was afraid and whenever I asked him to stop, he told me that he will inform my mother." The victim, records show, was assaulted 10 times and after every assault was paid Dh100. The boy's mother told prosecutors she noticed a change in the boy's demeanour. "I saw my son with the man and asked him what was going on," she testified. "The man denied any knowledge of my son. However, my son later told me what was going on." When the case was reported to the police, the boy identified MA in a lineup, records show. "The man said that this was a child's lie and that the boy wanted to get him in trouble," an investigating officer told prosecutors. amustafa@thenational.ae
