DUBAI // A man and a woman were charged with having consensual sex after they were caught naked in a car parked behind the Mall of the Emirates, a court heard this morning.
The man, JW, a 34-year-old Iraqi carpenter, appeared before the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours and told Judge Ibrahim Khalil Abu Shamma he was in love with the woman, CR, and intended to marry her.
According to prosecutors, the two were caught about dawn on April 14 in the man’s SUV and referred to Bur Dubai police after arresting officers gave them time to cover themselves.
CR, 20, a Russian student, said she met JW in Media City and fell in love with him at first sight. She told prosecutors they were arranging to get married soon.
She was free on bail and did not appear in court this morning.
On the day of the incident, she said they went for a drive around Dubai and ended up parking behind the mall in a sandy lot, records show.
“He convinced me it was OK to have sex and told me that no one will see us because his car windows were tinted,” she told prosecutors.
Prosecutors said they had sex twice and were caught the second time.
A patrol noticed the parked car moving, and an officer approached, flashing a light at it, records show.
“I got scared and lay down next to CR and asked her not to move, hoping they won't see us and eventually leave,” JW told prosecutors.
The officer, who saw them inside, ordered them to get out, but gave them time to get dressed after realising they were naked.
The next hearing was scheduled for May 29 to summon C R.
