Drivers caught with 95kg of hashish to see out 10-year jail terms

Two drivers caught delivering 94.8kg of hashish will see out their prison terms after losing their appeals for reduced sentences.
The Pakistanis, aged 30 and 32, will spend ten years in jail each and each pay a Dh100,000 fine after Dubai Court of Appeal upheld their sentences on Monday.
On October 17 last year, the pair were caught possessing 143 plastic bags stuffed with hashish which they intended to sell.
An Emirati police major said they received information about the two men and about a bus full of narcotics at the parking lot of Hamriya Park.
A police team kept the bus under surveillance and arrested the driver just before he drove away from the park.
"Two big boxes were found on the bus's rear seats, we also found a processing device, duct tape and a knife" said the officer.
The defendant told police he received the drugs from the second defendant, who was also his workmate. "The second defendant was planning to flee the country when we apprehended him at the Dubai Airport,' the policeman said.
"When he was questioned he revealed he was in touch with a drug dealer in Pakistan and was waiting for directions about the location to which he and the other defendant were supposed to deliver the drugs in return for Dh3,000 each," said the major.
At Dubai Criminal Court in February, the drivers denied charges of possessing drugs to sell. They were convicted and will be deported after serving their sentences.
