A man sentenced to five years in prison for assaulting a Dubai Police officer has been cleared of the charge. The Filipino defendant, 42, was convicted at Dubai Criminal Court in February of biting the officer's finger as he tried to place him under arrest. Police were responding to a report that the man was dealing drugs. The incident was alleged to have taken place in Al Quoz, Dubai, on July 4 of last year. The man denied assaulting the police officer and consuming drugs but was found guilty on both counts. He was ordered to pay a fine of Dh20,000 and was told he would be deported at the end of his sentence. But he was acquitted due to a lack of evidence at Dubai Court of Appeal on Monday.
