<span>DUBAI // An insurance agent and a manager were acquitted this morning of stealing a car, fraudulently selling it, then attempting to ship it to Iraq, a Dubai court said.</span> <span>GM, 40, and AN, 46, both from Syria, had been accused of stealing a Honda Accord in 2009, forging a shipping letter from the Roads and Transport Authority, and using the forged letter to ship the car out of the country.</span> <span>GM denied all the charges when he appeared before the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance last month, but prosecutors said he had confessed during their investigation.</span> The car’s legitimate owner told prosecutors he had parked his vehicle in Bani Yas over the weekend, and it disappeared. He said he informed police, who sent a notice to all stations and borders. <span>A Dubai police officer testified that during his shift at the Ghuwaifat border crossing, he found four stolen cars being shipped outside the country, and said the Honda was one of them.</span> <span>The shipping company provided police with the names of GM and AN, who were arrested shortly afterwards.</span> salamir@thenational.ae
