Drivers warned as thick fog blankets much of the UAE

Residents woke up to thick fog blanketing most of the country Wednesday morning prompting officials to issue warnings to drivers. In the Northern Emirates, the Ras Al Khaimah police called upon drivers to "use caution and drive cautiously as a result of fog" in some areas. The Roads and Transportation and Authority in Dubai said: "During heavy fog, if you couldn't continue driving, stop your vehicle off the road and turn on the waiting signals. #DriveSafely" The National Center of Meteorology and Seismology began alerting the public of the potential for mist and fog formation late Tuesday night. It said visibility would be reduced to less than 1,000 meters. These conditions are expected to be in effect until 9:30am Wednesday. Footage of thick haze covering Sharjah roads this morning was posted by the NCMS showing the reduced visibility on roads and yellow headlights beaming through the fog. But as the sun rises higher, burning off the faze and fog, temperatures are expected to peak between 36 and 40 C along the coast, 38 and 43 C in the rural areas and 30 and 35 C in the mountains. While daytime weather will be hot, conditions at night are expected to be mild, according to the NCMS. Partly cloudy and hazy conditions will prevail over some areas during the day, with a chance for clouds developing over some eastern and western parts of the country. Fog may also form early tomorrow morning due to the relative humidity rising.
