Those who are chaste will receive Allah’s help when it is most needed, today’s sermon reminds worshippers.
“Chastity is a moral characteristic that is in perfect harmony with common sense,” the sermon says. “In principle, it underlines every act for restraining the self – from unlawful desires that lead to sin to being involved in begging, for example.”
A hadith by the Prophet Mohammed says: “Whoever can guarantee [the chastity of] what is between his two jaw-bones and what is between his two legs, I guarantee Paradise for him.”
Chastity requires control of one’s senses, which must be used only for what Allah has made lawful and permissible.
“So if it happens that his self and faith have weakened, he should recall that the sweetness of faith lasts while the thrill of lust shall soon perish,” the sermon continues. “He should also be aware that Allah, the Almighty, stands by his servant if he turns away from sins and remains patient.”
The Prophet Mohammed once told a story of three men who were trapped in a cave by a rock. One began conversing with Allah saying: “O Allah! I had a she-cousin whom I loved as much as a passionate man loves a woman. I tried to seduce her but she refused till I paid her 100 dinars.
“So I worked hard till I collected 100 dinars and went to her with that. But when I sat in between her legs, she said, ‘O Allah’s slave! Be afraid of Allah! Do not deflower me except legally [by marriage]’.
“So I left her, O Allah! If you considered that I had done that only for seeking Your pleasure then please let the rock move a little to have a [wider] opening.”
Allah responded by shifting the rock.

Another way to earn air miles
In addition to the Emirates and Etihad programmes, there is the Air Miles Middle East card, which offers members the ability to choose any airline, has no black-out dates and no restrictions on seat availability. Air Miles is linked up to HSBC credit cards and can also be earned through retail partners such as Spinneys, Sharaf DG and The Toy Store.
An Emirates Dubai-London round-trip ticket costs 180,000 miles on the Air Miles website. But customers earn these ‘miles’ at a much faster rate than airline miles. Adidas offers two air miles per Dh1 spent. Air Miles has partnerships with websites as well, so booking.com and agoda.com offer three miles per Dh1 spent.
“If you use your HSBC credit card when shopping at our partners, you are able to earn Air Miles twice which will mean you can get that flight reward faster and for less spend,” says Paul Lacey, the managing director for Europe, Middle East and India for Aimia, which owns and operates Air Miles Middle East.
