Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, met Pakistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, on Thursday. Mr Qureshi delivered a message from Prime Minister Imran Khan, in which he thanked Sheikh Mohammed and the UAE's leadership for the "good treatment and generous care provided to the Pakistani community in the UAE", reported state news agency Wam. The letter also covered ways to enhance existing bilateral relations at all levels to benefit both populations. Sheikh Mohammed spoke highly of members of the Pakistani community that work and contribute towards the UAE's development. Mr Qureshi also praised the UAE's preventive measures in place to limit the spread of Covid-19, which he said greatly contributed to mitigating its negative effects on public health, the economy, tourism and transportation. The meeting was also attended by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, Deputy Ruler of Dubai; Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed, chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chief executive of Emirates Airline and Group; Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs; Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Co-operation; Hamad Al Zaabi, UAE Ambassador to Pakistan, and Ahmed Ali, Consul-General of Pakistan in Dubai. The UAE and Pakistan have historically had strong ties. In January, Mr Khan visited the UAE capital to meet Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed almost a year after the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces visited Pakistan. During Mr Khan's visit, the UAE pledged Dh734 million ($200m) in development aid to the country, which was struggling economically at the time. The UAE is also involved in efforts to eradicate polio in Pakistan by 2022.
