UAE donates $5m to Palestinians injured in Gaza protests and condemns Israel's use of 'excessive force'

The UAE has pledged $5 million (Dh18.4m) to provide urgent medicine for Palestinians injured in protests along the Gaza border on Monday.

Israeli forces killed at least 52 Palestinians in a wave of gunfire condemned as a “massacre” by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

At least 2,400 people were wounded by Israeli fire or injured through other means, such as tear gas, with some canisters dropped from hovering Israeli drones.

The clashes took place as the new US embassy was inaugurated in Jerusalem.

The UAE, on Monday, strongly condemned and denounced the excessive use of force by the Israeli occupation army against the unarmed Palestinian people.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation said Palestinians are practising their right to protest and demanding their legitimate rights.

''The UAE absolutely rejects the use of force to confront peaceful demonstrations, which mark the 70th anniversary of Nakba, and demand their just rights,'' the statement red.

The ministry called on the international community to shoulder its responsibility by stopping violence and protecting the Palestinian people.

It also reiterated the UAE's unequivocal position towards the Palestinian cause and its support for the Palestinian people in restoring their legitimate rights in line with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
