The UAE recorded 2,196 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, taking total infections to 446,594. Another 2,385 patients were given the all-clear as the recovery tally climbed to 429,573. Five patients died to take the death toll to 1,456. The number of active cases fell to 15,565 as recoveries exceeded new infections for the 11th day running. Daily infection rates have risen for three straight days, but remain significantly lower than those recorded earlier in the year. Case numbers were above 3,000 for much of January and February before a welcome decline in March. The UAE confirmed its lowest daily caseload since early January on Sunday, when 1,717 cases were reported. The latest cases were detected as a result of 226,275 tests. More than 36 million Covid-19 tests have been conducted nationwide since the outbreak began. Mass testing is key to the country's efforts to limit the spread of coronavirus, along with widespread vaccination of the public. A major immunisation campaign was launched in December, with more than 7.4 million doses of Covid-19 already administered.
