Celebrities and influencers are using their social media power to help the fight against cancer in the UAE. More than 70 online big-hitters, including TV presenter Mays Anber, who has an impressive 1.1 million followers on Instagram, Emirati singer Aryam, with 260,000 fans on the platform, and Emirati social media favourite, Khalid Al Ameri, with more than 450,000 followers, have lent their support to the annual breast cancer screening campaign, Pink Caravan. As part of the 'I Pledge' initiative - which the famous faces are promoting on their popular Instagram accounts - the backers will have check ups and screenings in the organisation's various mobile clinics across the Emirates. The 'I Pledge' campaign, which has already reached out to nearly four million people on Instagram, calls on every woman and man above the age of 20 to take part in the upcoming Pink Caravan Ride from February 21 to March 1, an annual event offering free medical examinations in an effort to drive up examination rates. Every year, about 150 riders saddle up dressed in pink to raise awareness of the importance of breast cancer screenings. “We aim to highlight the role of individual responsibility through this campaign because its important for every person to come forward and take responsibility for themselves,” said Badr Al Juaidi, manager of the Pink Caravan Ride. In the eight years the event has been held, more than 56,000 people have benefited from free examinations. For more information on 'I Pledge', visit www.pinkcaravan.ae/pledge
