Dozens of Mazda MX-5 models are being recalled in the UAE due to a fault that causes the cars to abruptly slow down. Galadari Automobiles issued a recall for a limited number of Mazda MX-5 vehicles that were manufactured between 2015 and 2018. The recall, which is effective immediately, relates to 37 vehicles which were manufactured during the specified time. A statement was released by Galadari Automobiles regarding the recall, which stated the fault puts vehicles at a greater risk of crashing due to a potential sudden change in speeds. “We regret to say, in affected vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, electrical noise in the range signal may be detected while driving in ‘D’ range, including manual mode,” read the statement. “Due to inappropriate control logic of the clutch control software, this signal noise may cause the vehicle to unexpectedly downshift, causing an abrupt deceleration of the drive wheels.” The statement added that a sudden decrease in “the speed of the drive wheels while driving may negatively affect the directional stability of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a loss of vehicle control and potentially resulting in a crash”. No crashes or injuries have been reported that were related to the recall, according to the statement. “All repairs related to this Recall Campaign will be completed free of charge to the customer,” read the statement. “Galadari Automobiles will contact all customers with affected models to arrange for repairs to be made.”
