Men stole Dh18,000 in Starbucks raid, Dubai court hears

DUBAI // Two men have appeared in court charged with breaking into a Starbucks coffee shop on Sheikh Zayed Road and stealing Dh18,000.

The defendants, a 24-year-old from Yemen and an Uzbek, 28, appeared in Dubai Criminal Court to face charges of theft and damaging property, which they denied.

At 6.30am on January 6 this year, the manager of the Starbucks branch arrived to find the main door smashed and the safe damaged.

“I called police immediately,” he said.

The defendants were arrested shortly after, said an Emirati police lieutenant.

“They stopped their car near the place and used sharp tools to break in then split the stolen amount,” said the officer.

A verdict is expected on May 23.

Electoral College Victory

Trump has so far secured 295 Electoral College votes, according to the Associated Press, exceeding the 270 needed to win. Only Nevada and Arizona remain to be called, and both swing states are leaning Republican. Trump swept all five remaining swing states, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, sealing his path to victory and giving him a strong mandate.

Popular Vote Tally

The count is ongoing, but Trump currently leads with nearly 51 per cent of the popular vote to Harris’s 47.6 per cent. Trump has over 72.2 million votes, while Harris trails with approximately 67.4 million.
