ABU DHABI // The Department of Transport has launched a new bus route with stops at the Indian Social and Cultural Centre on Mina Road and the recently re-opened Corniche Beach. There are now 10 bus routes operating on the island. The route will be served by six air-conditioned buses that will make 104 trips daily starting from 5am and continuing until after midnight. From 7am to 10pm buses will arrive every 20 minutes; outside those hours the wait is 40 minutes.
It is the first bus route in the capital to travel the entire stretch of the Corniche. "This provides more accessibility and increases the coverage of the network," said Saeed al Hameli, the department's general manager of buses. "It goes by the Corniche to give the new beaches accessibility." Daily, about 80 buses on the island carry more than 80,000 people. About 100 buses will be used during the Fifa Club World Cup, which starts next week, to transport fans to matches from park-and-ride locations at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and at Mushrif Park near the intersection of Karamah Street (24th St) and Mohammed bin Khalifa Street (15th St), and to shuttle others from the Tourist Club area and Marina Mall.
