An Emirati man was killed and his passenger seriously injured in a car crash in Sharjah on Sunday. Police said the vehicle hit a lamp post on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road at about 1.30pm. The driver, 21, and his friend, 20, were both flown to Al Qasimi Hospital following the incident but the older man was pronounced dead on arrival. His friend is understood to have suffered serious injuries. Officers urged motorists to take extra care given the unusual amount of water on the country’s roads because of recent rainfall. It is thought the car skidded in the wet weather.
