A motorist was killed and several others were injured during a spate of road accidents in Dubai over the weekend. The driver died after his Nissan vehicle was struck by a Toyota car on Sheikh Zayed Road at about 3pm on Saturday. The age and nationality of those involved in the series of accidents were not disclosed by police. “The Toyota car veered off to the right hitting the Nissan car in the process,” said Col Juma Salim bin Suwaidan, deputy director of Dubai Police’s traffic department. “The Nissan vehicle veered off the road and crashed as a result of the impact, which caused its driver severe injuries that led to his death.” A motorist sustained severe injuries after crashing into a bus while driving against the flow of traffic on Al Mustaqbal Road, towards Business Bay, at about 6.30am on the same day. A biker was also seriously hurt in a crash involving a car on Al Khail Road at about 11pm on Saturday. A cyclist incurred moderate injuries after being hit by a car on Al Khail Road at 11.30pm on Thursday. “The cyclist had crossed the red light signal causing the accident,” said Colo bin Suwaidan. Another motorist was severely hurt after his car veered off Jumeirah Road and smashed into a lamppost at 7.30pm on Friday. Another incident was reported only 30 minutes later, in which a taxi and a Cadillac collided on a section of Dubai Tram track on King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street. “One of the drivers, lacking attention, drove down the track, which caused his car to collide with the other car,” said the official. “Both cars were badly damaged and one driver was severely injured.”
