Hundreds of scooters and bicycles were seized for flouting traffic rules in Ras Al Khaimah. Police officials in the emirate said 369 bicycles and scooters were confiscated during a two week-long road safety campaign. Brig Mohammed Al Humaidi, director-general of the Central Operations of Ras Al Khaimah Police, said reckless riders can cause accidents and put lives at risk. He said most riders who were caught did not wear helmets and reflective safety vests. They also often drove on pavements and against the traffic. Brig Al Humaidi said that such campaigns help in bringing down the number of road accidents and deaths. In September, 400 motorbikes and bicycles were confiscated in the emirate in a similar traffic safety campaign.
