Two Emirati boys have been killed and four members of the same family injured in a car accident in Umm Al Quwain. The family's car collided with a lorry at 8.00pm on Monday on the Emirates Road in UAQ heading towards Sharjah. There were five children, all below 15, on board when the collision occurred, as well as their father. Two of the children died and three sustained minor to moderate injuries, along with the driver. They were all trapped in the car following the collision. Colonel Hassan bin Surm, director general of Umm Al Quwain Civil Defence, said that the family were trapped in the car after the accident and civil defence teams and paramedics were immediately dispatched to the site. He said: “The team used rescue equipment and tools to extricate [the family] as they were all trapped in the car. Two children were found to have been killed in the collision and the rest suffered minor to moderate injuries. They were transferred to Sheikh Khalifa General Hospital for treatment.” He urged motorists to comply with traffic rules, wear a seatbelt and to leave a sufficient safe distance between vehicles.
