If you've ever wanted to take your artistic endeavours to new heights, now might be the perfect time. Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest tower, will display a number of fan-submitted artworks on its 828-metre-high facade as part of a new initiative. Budding and professional artists alike have been called upon to submit their designs for the Dubai landmark's light show, which projects images and videos onto the tower's world famous exterior. The Burj Khalifa Open Call initiative is inviting graphic designers and artists to share their work, to be projected on to the structure located in Downtown Dubai. The month-long campaign, which launches on Sunday, November 22, will select one winner's design each week, which will then be splashed across the 109,252 square metres of the Burj Khalifa. Submissions were open until Thursday, December 31. The LED light show, which holds the Guinness World Record for the largest light and sound show on a single structure, runs multiple times per night. Both individual artists or teams from anywhere in the world can submit their light or 3D-mapping designs online. Scroll through the gallery below to see more light shows that have taken place on the Burj Khalifa: The campaign's launch follows news that Burj Khalifa will hold a fireworks and laser spectacle to celebrate New Year's Eve. On Thursday, December 31, guests can look forward to rockets, firecrackers, and a laser and light show, synchronised with The Dubai Fountain, that “promises to reflect the true celebration of Dubai”. Restaurants and hotels on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard and The Dubai Mall terraces will be open and are taking bookings for the night’s celebrations. Burj Park will also welcome families, with food and beverage outlets and a large screen that will show New Year’s Eve events from around the world. However, those who would rather watch the show without leaving home can do just that, as the celebrations will be broadcast live globally and live-streamed from 8.30pm local time on mydubainewyear.com. In a bid to keep the people safe, a number of Covid-19 measures will be implemented in Downtown Dubai for the event. This includes thermal cameras, social distancing, contactless payments and frequent deep cleaning and disinfection of public areas.
