We absolutely love this touring artistic initiative by London-based Ahlan Art. To mark the occasion of Haj last weekend, it has taken one painting, featuring the Kaaba at its centre, and is inviting members of the public to make their mark in a circular fashion around it, symbolising the circumambulation of people, which is a the central part of the pilgrimage.
Modelled on a painting of a similar nature, Diversity by Siddiqa Juma, which was displayed in Dubai during Ramadan at Emaar's Pavilion, the final piece will have as many as 5,000 marks by the end of its journey.
Hassan Mawji, the co-founder of Ahlan Art, says: “Through art, we aim to change mindsets and showcase the beauty within the Haj pilgrimage. By allowing people to create their own art piece at our exhibition, we are allowing people to feel a sense of ownership within the art, and hopefully inspire a new generation of artists.”
The touring piece will travel to various venues in London including the House of Lords, Accenture, the law firm White & Case and King’s College all before October 14, when it will end its tour and join the Ahlan Art Haj Exhibition at The Holiday Inn, Wembley, London.
Mawji says he plans to take the piece to Dubai at the end of the month as well as to New York, Toronto and hopefully Mecca later in the year.

Electoral College Victory
Trump has so far secured 295 Electoral College votes, according to the Associated Press, exceeding the 270 needed to win. Only Nevada and Arizona remain to be called, and both swing states are leaning Republican. Trump swept all five remaining swing states, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, sealing his path to victory and giving him a strong mandate.
