Superman is winging his way to Dubai to lend his might to a comic book store opening, according to the regional retailer. Henry Cavill, known for his roles in the latest spate of Superman movies, and more recently in Netflix's The Witcher, will be in the UAE on Tuesday, March 31 for the opening of Speedy Comics' flagship store in the UAE. Speedy Comics describes itself as dedicated to "rare, vintage, signed, variants and limited editions". The toy and pop culture merchandiser has an outlet in Kuwait, and its new Dubai store will be located at Al Attar Business Centre on Sheikh Zayed Road. The store announced its VIP guest in an Instagram post, inviting fans to visit the store to meet the actor at the opening. While Cavill got his big break as the modern-day generation's Superman, he's since made a name for himself as Gerald of Rivia in much-anticipated fantasy series The Witcher, which was heralded before its release as the next Game of Thrones. In data released on December 30 by Netflix, The Witcher was fourth in a list of the most-watched movies and series of 2019 in the UAE, despite only being released 10 days earlier. However, our reviewer wasn't convinced it lived up to the hype. "Not only does The Witcher immediately mirror Game Of Thrones' penchant for using animals as metaphor, but the location, fight, use of a mythical creature, and pretty much all of Cavill's look and delivery also seem to have been inspired by the HBO mega-hit," The National's Gregory Wakeman wrote. "But The Witcher's showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and cast and crew have absolutely no intention of merely remaking or treading over the same ground as its illustrious predecessor. So for the rest of the pilot we are given an awful lot of information to digest regarding the world and mythology of The Witcher, most of which unfortunately fails to land."
