Egyptian actor Mustafa Fahmy, who has been a household name in the region for half a century, has died. He was 82. His death was confirmed by Egypt's Actors Syndicate. <i>Middle East News Agency </i>said Fahmy died in the early hours of Wednesday. Fahmy underwent surgery in August after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. His health, however, continued to deteriorate. Much like his brother, the celebrated actor <a href="https://www.thenationalnews.com/arts-culture/2022/03/16/hussein-fahmy-to-replace-mohamed-hefzy-as-cairo-international-film-festival-president/" target="_blank">Hussein Fahmy</a>, Mustafa Fahmy had been actively involved in Egypt’s <a href="https://www.thenationalnews.com/arts-culture/film-tv/" target="_blank">television and film</a> industry for the past 50 years. His filmography comprises more than 150 titles dating back to the 1970s. His most famous works include <i>Ayn Aqli </i>(1974), <i>Waghan le-Wagh </i>(1976), <i>El-Milyunairah el-Nashshalah </i>(1978), <i>Ayyam Fi AlHalal </i>(1985) and <i>Amaliyat Khasa </i>(2007). His recent works include the film <i>Ahl Al Kahf </i>(2024), and the series <i>Pablo </i>(2022). Celebrities and fans alike have taken to social media to mourn Fahmy, and express their appreciation of his contribution to Egyptian cinema and television. Among them were Egyptian actors <a href="https://www.thenationalnews.com/arts-culture/film-tv/2022/11/06/actor-ahmed-el-sakka-announces-new-ramadan-drama-al-jabal-at-sharjah-book-fair/" target="_blank">Ahmed Elsaka</a> and Youssef el Sherif, both of whom posted condolences on X and called Fahmy “a great artist.” “We will miss you so much,” Egyptian actor and director Khaled El Nabawy wrote on X. Egyptian actress Menna Fadali also mourned the actor, writing on X: “You were a true friend, artist and companion. We will miss you.” Fahmy’s death comes a mere day after that of another celebrated Egyptian actor, <a href="https://www.thenationalnews.com/arts-culture/film-tv/2023/07/30/egyptian-actor-hassan-youssef-mourns-death-of-his-youngest-son/" target="_blank">Hassan Youssef</a>. The actor, who died aged 90, was affectionally called the “Mischievous Boy” of Egyptian cinema for the roles he often portrayed in films in the 1960s. Fahmy’s and Youssef’s deaths are being jointly marked in several posts across social media with many stating that the Egypt is mourning two of its greatest artists in less than 24 hours.
