The highly anticipated trailer for Avengers: Endgame was released on Friday and it's already set a new record with 289 million views in its first 24 hours. The views were tabulated across multiple platforms such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. The previous record was held by Avengers: Infinity War which reached 230 million views and then followed by Disney's live-action adaptation of The Lion King which raked in 224.6 million. Marvel Studios tweeted about the record by thanking the “greatest fans in the world”: The film is the fourth Avengers movie and follows up on the events after Infinity War. The blockbuster became the fastest grossing film to cross the $1 billion mark when it did so in just 11 days. The movie could mark the end for cast members Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) - three leads who helped kick off the Marvel Cinematic Universe a decade ago. The trio will reportedly finish their contracts with Marvel after this film. With new characters (such as Captain Marvel) being introduced, it's likely there will be a shift in focus on a new set of superheroes. Avengers: Endgame is expected to release worldwide on April 26. __________________ Read more: 7 takeaways from the new 'Avengers: Endgame' trailer ‘Avengers: Endgame’ trailer shows Marvel’s tactic of linking films Comic book creator Lee gave us hope in the face of darkness
