The trailer for the new Mary Poppins movie is finally here, and it has made us even more excited for the film. In it we see Mary Poppins, this time played by British actress Emily Blunt, returning to London to resume care of Jane and Michael Banks. Fully grown Michael (Ben Whishaw), who is taking care of his three children following the death of his wife, has sunken into depression and forgotten what it means to be a child. Jane (Emily Mortimer) steps in to assist. When Michael throws away a kite (the subject of the original movie's Let's Go Fly a Kite song) his son retrieves it from the rubbish and takes it to the park. The kite rustles up the curious wind and weather, heralding Mary Poppins' arrival. The trailer promises the film will be much more than just a rehash of the 1964 movie, and Blunt, from what we can tell in the trailer, has perfectly captured Julie Andrews' portrayal of the stern, polite but still magical Mary Poppins. The trailer also shows Mary and the children entering a cartoon world - and staying true to the original, it's in 2D animation and is old-school and hand-drawn. Considering the stick he got for his accent in the original movie, it was a nice surprise to see a spritely Dick Van Dyke in the trailer, with white hair and a beard, dancing on a stage. Touted for a Christmas release, the all-star cast also features Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Julie Walters and Angela Lansbury. That's more than a spoonful of sugar. ___________________
Read more: Review: 'Juliet, Naked' is a predictable succession of polite chuckles Shane Black talks about 'The Predator' reboot and promises not to go easy on the violence David Attenborough, Kate Atkinson and Mary Beard to appear in Dubai via live-link ___________________
