Lana Del Rey was given a heroic reception at the du Arena on Saturday.
The US singer made her debut UAE performance as part of the Abu Dhabi F1 after race concerts. It was a treat in many ways.
Abu Dhabi was not only the first overseas stop of her latest world tour, but it was only the 20th stop of a world tour that is still to go to Europe, Asia, Australia and South America. This makes us one the small number of crowds to see how the new songs from her acclaimed sixth album, Norman (expletive) Rockwell fare up live.
The crowd didn't have to wait too long as Del Rey and band (including two dancers) opened her set with two tracks from the new song collection. The album's title track set the scene for what was a gorgeous evening of lovelorn balladry. Accompanied by a solitary piano, Del Rey's voice was supple as she cooed of love that made her blue.

That vibe continued with Bartender, another slow burning tune which at the end had the mostly young crowd swaying along for a night full of the feels.
The Abu Dhabi F1 After-Race Concerts conclude on Sunday, with the race day concert featuring the US rockers The Killers. To attend the concert, fans need to have a ticket for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Tickets are available online from Yas Marina Circuit.
