Let’s hope a few promoters were in the audience for Gwen Stefani’s private Dubai gig on Monday as the US pop-star still got the songs and the voice. Performing at the launch of Renaissance Downtown Hotel, the age-less 48-year-old reminded us that as well as mentoring future stars on the US version of the talent show The Voice she can still hold her own on stage. Backed by a tight and nimble four-piece band, Stefani performed a make-shift outdoor stage inside the plush urban surroundings of the hotel and delivered a hit-laden set from both her solo career and time with pop-rockers No Doubt. From the bubble gum ska-pop of I'm Just A Girl to the brilliant electro-pop of What You Are Waiting For? and Hella Good it is remarkable how much of Stefani's catalogue sounds so fresh and vital today. With the success of Pink's storming set as part of the Abu Dhabi GP recently, a public performance by Stefani -whom Pink cited as one of her biggest influences - should surely pack in the crowds. Consider this the first of our New Year's resolutions for 2018. ______________________
Read more from Music: ______________________
