Popular Arab music couple Tamer Hosny and Bassma Boussel are splitting up. The news was shared on Boussel’s social media on November 13, with the Moroccan singer stating she and Hosny have already separated and divorce papers are being drawn up. "I would like you to know that we have been separated for a period and we are preparing the divorce papers," she said in an Instagram Story post. "I ask you to respect our feelings and privacy in these times." The Egyptian musician has yet to make an official comment on the situation, using his social media, instead, to plug his upcoming album, Khaleek Folazy. The news of the breakdown of his eight year marriage with Boussel, during which they had three children, could see fans re-examine the recently released singles from the album. A cursory glance reveals some darker lyrical currents running through the tunes. Single Karahteny Fel Hob ('She Hated Me in Love'), which was released on Saturday, November 7, seemed like a standard breakup ballad, but it now reads like a dramatic goodbye to Boussel. "She hated me in love, my heart and goodness," he sings. “I saw difficult days with you. May God not repeat them. But from her house, I will leave and forget." Another track that could allude to Hosny's tumultuous private life is Mabatalnash Ehsas ('We Haven't Stopped Feeling'). Topping the region's trending charts on YouTube upon its October release, the song has Hosny crooning about a relationship losing its flavour. “We grew up to understand that pain comes and goes so it can to teach us," he sings. "We may have stopped loving more, but we haven't stop feeling." It will be intriguing to see if Boussel responds in kind. Since marrying Hosny in in 2012, the former Star Academy contestant has put her own music career on hold, with the exception of the sporadic single, to raise their family. In a 2019 press conference before his show at Morocco's Mawazine Festival, Hosny said her decision to step away from the limelight was discussed at the onset of the marriage. Hosny also added there is a stack of unreleased home recordings of the couple singing children’s songs. “My wife and I create and sing songs for our kids, just a way to keep the household fun and light. These songs are just for us,” he said. “The only way you can hear them is if I invite you to my house and see us perform.”
