In a gradual easing of restrictions across Dubai's hospitality sector amid the pandemic, a new circular from Dubai Tourism has laid out new rules for live entertainment. Indoor and outdoor restaurants, pools and common areas in hotel establishments are allowed to host entertainers once more. Only solo acts are allowed (so no groups or bands), and they can perform only on stage, at least two metres away from customers. Audience interaction is prohibited. The rules apply to musicians, DJs and stage show performers all of whom must wear face masks in public at all times, as per the emirate’s ruling to slow the spread of the coronavirus. The circular also states there should be no crowding, dancing or club-like ambience of any kind (this includes strobe lights, for example). Customers are not yet allowed to sit on bar stools, either. The new rules exclude bars and nightclubs altogether, which are to remain closed for the time being. All acts also require a permit from the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing. The new rules come as part of a general easing of restrictions across the emirate.
