Qawwali music legend Rahat Fateh Ali Khan returns to Dubai for a show next month. The Pakistani singer and composer will take the stage at the Dubai World Trade Centre on December 7, in what will be the final show of his world tour. Khan’s annual shows at the venue have become a hot ticket over the last few years due to the quality of the musicianship and Khan’s extensive body of work. Nephew of the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Rahat started training as a singer at the age of seven, having first performed from the age of nine as part of his uncle’s Qawwali troupe. By the time he turned 15 he was a fully-fledged member of the band and began joining them on international tours. Like his uncle, Khan always had an open approach to his work and was happy to collaborate with international artists. He worked with an eclectic list of musicians including Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder on the soundtrack to the Oscar-winning 1995 film Dead Man Walking (1995) as well as The Four Feathers (2002) and Mel Gibson's brutal drama Apocalypto (2006). However, for this show, Khan has elected to take a more purist approach and perform a traditional set full of Qawwali pieces. In his statement announcing the concert, he promises a “mesmerising show” for his Dubai fans. “I am looking forward to coming back to Dubai for another great show,” he said. “I have never performed Qawwali in its purest form before in Dubai and I can’t wait to see you all again for a memorable night.” Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is at the Dubai World Trade Centre on December 7.
