Yulduz Usmonova has announced a concert for Dubai in October. The acclaimed Uzbek singer will perform at the Madinat Theatre at Souk Madinat Jumeirah on October 13 with a show blending her own original compositions with popular folk tracks from sung in Turkish, Russian and Tajik. She will be accompanied by live band, a dance troupe and striking visual effects. Born in Margilan in eastern Uzbekistan (what was then the former USSR) to parents employed in the local silk factory, the 53-year-old studied music at the state conservatory and went on to forge a pop career in the mid nineties. Catering to her growing fan base in Central Asia, Usmonova began releasing songs in Uyghur, Turkish, Russian, Tajik, Kazakh and Tartar. A purist, she is known back home for her fierce criticism for the new generation of Uzbek performers who lip synch in their concerts. After migrating to Turkey in 2008, Usmonova topped the local charts with hits including Dunya, Yalah and her duet with Turkish star Yasar, Seni Severdim.
