And it seems that both the casting and costume departments on The Crown have earned their way, as the similarities between the two are clear to see: Colman was seen leaving London’s Royal College of Physicians in the brand new photos. In a very similar combination of an embellished light blue dress, white gloves and a tiara, the Queen once wore while arriving at London's Royal Opera House in 1968. The Queen would have been aged 42 in the photo above, the beginning of the period Colman is set to portray her from. Tobias Menzies has taken over from Matt Smith to play Prince Philip, while Helena Bonham Carter will play Princess Margaret and Ben Daniels will feature as Antony Armstrong-Jones, previous played by Vanessa Kirby and Matthew Goode respectively. Click through the gallery below to see comparisons between the new and old cast of The Crown: Colman, who is fresh from her Academy Award win for her portrayal of another British queen, Queen Anne, in The Favourite, was delighted to be cast as the reigning British monarch. "I'm so thrilled to be part of The Crown. I was utterly gripped watching it," Coleman told the BBC shortly after her role was announced in July last year. "I think Claire Foy is an absolute genius – she's an incredibly hard act to follow. I'm basically going to re-watch every episode and copy her." Netflix is yet to reveal when The Crown season 3 will be aired
