The UAE's National Day is celebrated on December 2 each year and marks the unification of the emirates into a federation. 2. The UAE is a federation made up of seven emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. 3. Six of the seven emirates combined on December 2, 1971, but Ras Al Khaimah joined the federation later, on February 10, 1972. 4. The UAE was founded under the leadership and vision of the late Sheikh Zayed, known as the Founding Father. 5.
