The filmmaker Abhinay Deo, the co-writer and co-producer of the Indian version of the popular American TV series 24, has confirmed filming for the show will begin this week. "Within six months, we'll complete the shoot and the show will be broadcast around July or August," he told reporters. The actor Anil Kapoor, who featured in the US show and is also responsible for bringing it to India, is tipped to appear as a "never-before-seen character", according to Deo. – IANS
2. Dutta: Bollywood better for heroines
Reflecting on Bollywood's centenary, Divya Dutta says the industry continues to improve for female actors. "I think it has got better," said the 35-year-old star. "I think the audience has become very receptive. Filmmakers are doing new things, generating new roles – it's really beautiful. This year, I have seven films releasing and I have different roles in each one of them." Dutta debuted in the industry in 1994. Her most recent film is the action thriller Zila Ghaziabad, out now in cinemas. – IANS
3. UTV signs Kapoor for new film
Buoyed by the success of Kai Po Che!, UTV Motion Pictures has signed up the director Abhishek Kapoor for a second project. Kapoor is excited to be reuniting with UTV, saying: "It is only natural, and a real pleasure to extend this bond going forward." Kai Po Che! is currently showing in UAE cinemas.– IANS

Brunch has been around, is some form or another, for more than a century. The word was first mentioned in print in an 1895 edition of Hunter’s Weekly, after making the rounds among university students in Britain. The article, entitled Brunch: A Plea, argued the case for a later, more sociable weekend meal. “By eliminating the need to get up early on Sunday, brunch would make life brighter for Saturday night carousers. It would promote human happiness in other ways as well,” the piece read. “It is talk-compelling. It puts you in a good temper, it makes you satisfied with yourself and your fellow beings, it sweeps away the worries and cobwebs of the week.” More than 100 years later, author Guy Beringer’s words still ring true, especially in the UAE, where brunches are often used to mark special, sociable occasions.

What is graphene?
Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms arranged like honeycomb.
It was discovered in 2004, when Russian-born Manchester scientists Andrei Geim and Kostya Novoselov were "playing about" with sticky tape and graphite - the material used as "lead" in pencils.
Placing the tape on the graphite and peeling it, they managed to rip off thin flakes of carbon. In the beginning they got flakes consisting of many layers of graphene. But as they repeated the process many times, the flakes got thinner.
By separating the graphite fragments repeatedly, they managed to create flakes that were just one atom thick. Their experiment had led to graphene being isolated for the very first time.
At the time, many believed it was impossible for such thin crystalline materials to be stable. But examined under a microscope, the material remained stable, and when tested was found to have incredible properties.
It is many times times stronger than steel, yet incredibly lightweight and flexible. It is electrically and thermally conductive but also transparent. The world's first 2D material, it is one million times thinner than the diameter of a single human hair.
But the 'sticky tape' method would not work on an industrial scale. Since then, scientists have been working on manufacturing graphene, to make use of its incredible properties.
In 2010, Geim and Novoselov were awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics. Their discovery meant physicists could study a new class of two-dimensional materials with unique properties.
